Three Done

I finished my third Roseville Album block. Well, almost. I have circles on the ends of the handles in the second one to do, but I spent a whole day looking for the right fabric, even making a trip to the quilt store down the street, but nothing hit me. I'll have to move on and get back to it later.

I'm not sure about the big blooms on this one, either. I may have to change them later.

Now on to Block 4. Rufus was studying the pattern today, trying to help me with fabric selection.

We have some new ones to pick from after my trip to Shipshewana last weekend. I didn't know there were that many fabrics I didn't have!

I also bought Remembering Adelia, my first Kathleen Tracy book, for a challenge on the smallquilttalk board on Yahoo, and stocked up on .005 Micron pens, a staple for me. I have a friend that said every time she sees one she thinks of me. I picked up the large set of Karen Kay Buckley's Perfect Circles, too. I don't usually work on anything that large, but some of the circles on Roseville were a bit too large for the smaller set.

I put a poll up on my sidebar. Do you wash your fabrics first or not? I'm curious because I have to for a swap and I don't. I realize this is like Bernina v. Viking as far as do or don't, but I'm wondering what the percentages are. So don't forget to vote!

You have used some very interesting fabrics. One of the pinks looks like it has bugs on it.

Hi Lisa, ...hey, we're becoming a bit telepathic, I just got back from Threadbear with the larger circles, I decided my Ohio Star needs a bigger circle.
Your Roseville is looking great, I spied some fave fabrics in there including 5 smithsonians I think.
Cute cat too.
Til soon, Cheers M

Love the fabrics you have chosen for your Roseville.
All Kathleen Tracys books are really good- I have all of them, so many good projects to chose in any one of them .
If only our pets could tell us what they are thinking.

I love those! They're gorgeous! I'm not usually one to do someone else's quilt designs, but your blocks make me want to do that design in my typically crazy bright colored fabrics.

Hi Lisa,
I took a week long workshop with Bill Kerr from Funquilts. He's a long time designer, etc. in the fabric field. He talked to us about the chemicals and other conditions fabrics are kept under in warehouses (NOT clean places) and always washes his fabrics before touching. Some of the stuff our fabric sees before we get it just all that safe for us to be exposed to. I now wash everything, especially before I expose my stash to YUCKY things. Just my 2 cents.

Great progress on your blocks. They look wonderful. I'm sure input from Rufus is priceless! You couldn't do it without the cat, right?

Hi Lisa,
Love your Roseville blocks. They look great. Rufus looks like a huge help. Plus, he can read upside down!

Beautiful blocks, Lisa! I voted but should probably have said it depends. I just bought a really big stack of fabric and there's one, a homespun, that I'll prewash but normally I don't. I wait till after I finish the quilt completely and then toss it in the washer. Even with intricate applique and red fabrics, I've never had a problem. I know there are chemicals but some of them seem to help keep the fabric stable while I work with it. So I guess I'm with you on this even though it looks like more do than not.

Hi Lisa,
Great blocks - must've kept you very busy! The fabrics look wonderful together.
I tried to vote but the button won't connect for me....anyway - "it depends" is my answer. I sometimes wash strong colours (particularly reds) especially if they are going on a light background. But usually not, and have never had a run.
Rufus looks like a very wise fellow - or maybe he's just intent on reading upside down!

Your blocks are gorgeous.
I voted depends. If it is a stripe or design that I do not wanted distorted or homespun that I want the sizing left in it,I do not wash, otherwise all my fabrics are washed.
Would love to have Rufus on my lap right now.

Fascinating choices of fabric - your blocks are wonderful!

I love your version of The Roseville Album. Seeing only Kaffe fabrics being used is very limiting especially since there are so many fantastic fabrics available to us these days. Good for you for bucking the trend.

You are doing a great job with your Rosevilles. You said you were fast, but I didn't know you were that fast! Maybe could do a Baltimore BOM if you wanted to...

The Roseville blocks are gorgeous. I will do the poll but I am a devout pre-washer. I am loving your cat and trying to convince the hubby that I totally need one myself.
