A few weeks ago I had the privilege of visiting the Historical Society of Decatur County Museum in Greensburg, Indiana. The museum is housed in the Lathrop/Shannon house, part of which was built c. 1850, and which was occupied by the family from 1872 to 1980. The rooms in the house are decorated in 19th and early 20th century style, and the museum also has special collections of Victorian furniture, textiles, and children's toys, among other things. I entered the first room and was greeted with a breathtaking display of floral quilts.

This one is dated 1852, and I wish the pictures showed how wonderful it was.
Notice the different embroidery stitches used.
