Back From Baltimore Giveaway!

Okay, so maybe it wasn't really Baltimore, but it felt like it.  The Elly Sienkiewicz Applique Academy was the most amazing experience.  We spent a whole week surrounded by so many talented and creative ladies, in such a welcoming atmosphere, that I can't imagine not going back next year and doing it all over again.  If you've ever wanted to go, but were hesitating, I can assure you it's something you don't want to miss.

I have so much to tell you about that I don't know where to begin, so I thought I would start with a giveaway!  I have two small floral Baltimore patterns by Rita Verroca, a postcard of a Baltimore Album Quilt from the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, and a CD by Kelly Kout of gravestones in the Greenmount Cemetery in Baltimore.  More about this later, but these patterns can be used for applique, quilting, or just for inspiration.

I'll start posting tomorrow about the trip.  To win the giveaway, just leave a comment by the time I do the last post, which should be around next Saturday or Sunday, and tell me what you like better, applique or piecing.

I want to thank every one who commented, emailed or sent a card on the recent passing of my dear Brody.  It's taken some time to heal, but I know you all know how dear our pets are to us.

I haven't done much applique, so I guess right now I prefer piecing. I did take a 1-day applique class with Elly about 10 years ago.....fabulous! She's amazing, her work is so lovely, and I learned SO much at that class!

I also remember how brave she was to hand write on the front of appliqued blocks.....a lovely script, very fancy lettering, and with a crowd around her nearly bumping her arm! I was holding my breath! That's some bravery! :o)

Lisa, I like your new header picture with the little girl at the end who is not smiling. She looks like the faces of a lot of dolls I have seen lately. Big eyes and heart shaped lips--wonder what happened to her to be in such a mood??? Glad you got to go to the Elly S. Applique Academy, what a thrill!! Hope to see lots of neat ideas from your next posts. Judy

It used to be that piecing was my favorite. But once I practiced applique for a while and got better at it, it is now applique.

I appliqué mostly now. Needle turn is my preferred method and I back baste everything. Very time consuming but I so love the effect so much more. I do hope you post your project. Thank you or the chance

Hi Lisa,
It was great meeting you while you were in Williamsburg. I just started a blog about reproduction small quilts. It's http://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com I like both applique and piecing, but started piecing before applique, so I'm better at it. But I love them both.

Lucky you - I've heard so many great things about The Elly Applique Academy. I do have a calls with Rita Verroca coming up. So I should say applique! But I do love piecing too. For this evening...I'll say applique!

i prefer needleturn applique, probably because it's so forgiving!

Love to needle turn applique! I don't like to sit at the sewing machine very long, guess that is why I prefer hand applique. Thanks for the great giveaway...love to win

I can't decide which is better the postcard or the patterns! I lurk here now and then and am excited to hear about your trip. I enjoy your photos too! For me, it depends on the project and my mood as to whether applique or piecing is better. I enjoy both, but I can say for certain machine piecing over hand piecing and hand applique over machine applique!
Thanks for the chance! Stop and see my recent Gail Wilson gift at my blog!

So glad you enjoyed your applique workshop - sounds marvellous to be able to indulge for a whole week !! I love applique and am quite torn between applique and English paper piecing.

I love to piece but I'd like to improve my applique!
I have one of Elly's books and would love to take a class with her!

I just love applique, how it looks and every aspect of doing it. I love to needleturn sitting in a comfy chair while watching TV. Piecing is fine but it just can't compete with applique. I can't wait to hear about your adventures with Elly. I am hoping that next year will be my year to go!

I guess I have to say I enjoy piecing more; but am learning to do both machine applique and also wool applique.
Am in hopes of learning needle turn at some point; but there are so many things I like doing that I need to put more time into both.
Welcome back, and thanks for a giveaway so soon after returning.

I love both applique and piecing and love to combine the two. This allows me to sew at the machine and do handwork while resting in my favorite chair.

Piecing is quicker but I prefer applique. It is the closest to painting, your fabrics are your painter's palette.
Look forward to hearing about your trip and classes.

It sounds like it was an exciting time, It was always a dream to go to the applique academy. It's applique over piecing for me, every time.

Hi, I hope the drawing is still available. I love appliquing, I am learning. We started a group that meets once a month to learn how to applique. We are learning various methods. Looking forward to reading about what you learned and any and all ideas. Helen
