1840-1860 Quilt Styles

While I'm working on Part II of Study Day, I thought you would enjoy seeing a few more of the quilts from the morning session illustrating quilt styles typical of the 1840-1860 period.

Look at the fabrics in this one!

A wonderful four block quilt with flying geese sashing dated 1855.

Notice the Heart-in-hand quilting motif.

This stunner is a sampler of quilting motifs.

Another great fabric study.

My pictures do not do this one justice.

I love them all. You do get fantastic opportunities in the USA to see vintage quilts. I really like the Medallion one, How wonderfully talented these women of the 1800's were.
You have made my Monday morning. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see more. Antique quilts are not as popular in SE Michigan as they were when I started quilting 30 years ago so there aren't as many opportunities to see them in person.

Awesome and inspiring quilts, Lisa. I cannot help but imagine the women who worked on these quilts, probably at night; many of them making do with what they had...and turning it into something both beautiful and useful.

Thank-you for sharing these pictures with us!

Thanks for the wonderful photos - so beautiful! Are the blues really that bright (as in photos 5 and 6 and 7) - they sparkle?
All the best

I'm with Lori - the close ups are absolutely stunning! You could imagine you're actually there with the quilts - thanks so much for all the wonderful photos. The quilting in the 2 indigo and white quilts are my favorites, but really - they are ALL my faves.

Beautiful quilts!
I noticed you don't have Christine LeFever's blog (http://christinelefever.blogspot.com) on your sidebar. Have you seen it? She makes 18th century reproduction dolls that are amazing.

Thank you for sharing these amazing quilts.
I love that era, and am always amazed at how beautiful the quilts of that time are. The 1800's fabrics, quilting and designs are an inspiration.
We in Australia don't ever get to see amazing antique quilts like these.
